GENETIC LINKAGE MAPS

Overview

Genetic linkage maps based upon frequency of recombination in segregating populations, or estimates of linkage disequilibrium are powerful tools for associated phenotypic trait effects with specific regions of plant genomes. A range of genetic maps have been developed for the Brassica A, B, C genomes and a major challenge at present is to integrate these and associate with the emerging genome sequence. In general linkage groups that are defined from genetic mapping should represent single genes. The order of genetic loci on the linkage groups effectively represent a mathematical model of the order of genes in the chromosomes.
